Last Tuesday, March 3rd, the O Gallery in San Jose del Cabo hosted a fundraiser for Gente Joven Por un Cambio. 150 people attended the “Carnival” themed event, and MXN$12,704 was raised to support our GJC youth programs! The entire GJC leadership was thrilled with the turnout, and plans are already in motion to make it an annual event.
GJC Executive Director Caroline Wilson shared her enthusiasm for the evening’s results:
“This event was a great success for all of us. People are getting to know who we are and what our mission is: To inspire the next generation to solve problems, create visionary change, and realize their full potential. People got to see first hand the eagerness for education in our youth. The whole GJC team pulled together to raise money for our program.”
Bringing Los Cabos Together
The evening included music, food, wine tasting, a fashion show, a silent auction, and perhaps the biggest highlight: revealing the Gente Joven Por un Cambio mural.
It was a wonderful event on a beautiful evening that brought the Los Cabos community together with the GJC coaches and youth. The GJC message was clear: Standing together, we are stronger as a community and we can create positive change in today’s world.
One of our GJC Youth, Alan Aviles, shared his thoughts about the evening:
“I think the event was fine. We had a great time meeting together. We helped the foundation raise money, and I had the opportunity to meet a lot of new people that I didn’t know. I also did like a lot when we opened and showed Mrs. Onagh the mural. It was nice to see her so happy!”
The mural was painted by the youth with the help and support of Marco Bejarano, an artist at O Gallery. It was actually completed during the fundraiser for all that attended to enjoy. The mural, which is painted on the wall outside O Gallery in downtown San Jose del Cabo, tells the story of Gente Joven and the work we are doing with youth. It is a beautiful representation of GJC for everyone to see and admire. Perhaps the most special part of the mural is that GJC youth created the design and logo and helped paint it!
